attractive and elegant without being too expensive. It can dress up or down a table. Only mention is that the white parts of the plate are more of a light cream, light tan rather than white which the product picture might lead you to believe. But still happy with product!

They arrived on time, attractive set. I ordered two as we have a very large family! Needless to say after using them(not all) the bowls and mugs were cracking down the sides and leaking whatever liquid was in or on them. I have had to throw away 4 mugs and two plates and two bowls already. I’m not happy as I bought around thanksgiving and have Had to throw away so many pieces already. The plates have chipped on every corner. It may be pretty but buyer beware. My dollar store fine China lasted longer than these!!

I love this set. I was leery at first because I read all the reviews and saw pictures of people getting them broken. I knew I wanted 2 sets, but I wanted to only order 1 set to see if they were as attractive as they were pictured and no defects. I was pleasantly surprised and they arrived as expected with no broken items. I placed my second order for another set and they too arrived perfectly. I love these plates and always get compliments from my friends and famiy when they eat over at our house. I would definitely recommend these for others to purchase.

I bought these dishes a month ago. As I was about to put a cup on the table, I accidentally touched the handle of one with the handle of the other one when placing them on the table. The whole handle broke off. I was shocked to see how delicate this dishes are. Now, I only have 3 cups instead of 4. The “Sturdy” part of the description is not accurate at all. I do have to recognize how attractive they look. I had a lot of comments coming from my asian friends.. I hand wash them since they are not sturdy.

Like the color, but the way the dishes are finished, results in forks and spoons catching on the "cracks." Aside from a minor annoyance it makes me wonder if this will contribute to increased wear, or chipping with usage. The dessert plates had more deformity from plate to plate than expected and when stacked it is quite noticeable. It doesn't affect their use, but it does look odd when you see them stacked. I'll use them, but with what I know now, I wouldn't buy them again.

This set is attractive. They look & feel classy and the size is perfect since they are slightly larger than normal dishes (except for the mugs, which are normal sized). I might end up buying another set so I have an eight piece setting. In all honesty, I could do without the mugs. They are plain & I don't drink coffee & prefer larger mugs for tea, but that's more of a personal preference for me, since I usually don't use the mugs that come with dinnerware sets. They do match the other dishes nicely.

We bought the 4 piece black set. The description said the plates were over 12” so we almost didn’t buy them. It turns out that measurement is on the diagonal and the plates are actually about 10.5” square, so they fit easily in a standard 12” upper cabinet. They seem to be very nice plates overall. They came well-packed in a cardboard box, but for some reason, someone at Amazon felt the need to put that box into a much larger box with just a strip of paper for cushioning. So whenever you picked up the big box, the heavy smaller box would freely shift around inside. Ultimately, the big box was pretty beat up by the time I received it and I’m surprised nothing was broken inside. Not sure why the shipping label couldn’t have gone on the original box though.

So I've officially had this dishware set for 3 years now & I'm down to 2 of each item. Over the past 3 years I've used them almost 3 times a day & hand washed them each time (because I don't own a dishwasher). These dishes have been thrown around from shelf, counter, table, sink, drying rack, & back to the shelf. Not to mention the times they've been left on the floor for the dogs to clean. To my surprise they've held up VERY well. Almost every one that broke was due to me slamming them around in the sink when I was washing them. The one exception was when I intentionally broke a large plate during an argument. I'm writing this review because I'm just about to make a second purchase, because they're totally worth the price, hold up well, & look very nice!!

After a visit from in laws and their kids, we lost a plate, cup, and bowl from this BRAND NEW set. Our older plates, also ceramic, held up fine.As fragile as they are, I would refrain from dishwasher usage.

I love this set and was about to write a review but then apparently I received a mug with a defect. I've worked with pottery before so I know bubbles in items will cause your work to explode in the kiln. I just bought these in November 2015 so I'm chalking it up to defect because the Gibson dishes I had before were solid for a few years. Anyways, I put the mug in the microwave as a did with other mugs and other mugs that came with the set. It states they are dishwasher, microwave, and something else safe on the bottom. Anyways, went to pick up the cup from the microwave and the handle shattered. I could see a hole in the inside of the handle. I emailed Amazon.c about the warranty and they said I needed to contact the actual manufacturer which is not as easy as it sounds. I will try to come back and update this review after consulting the manufacturer.

I absolutely love these plates however the blue on some batches comes much brighter than others I had to buy two sets in order to have enough for my family and on one set the small plates look way too bright. That's the reason for four stars .

Bought 3 sets of 16 in order to have enough to server 12. Have been using for a couple weeks now. These are heavy duty, dishwasher safe, well made (solid) stoneware. The gradient colors are fantastic. The packaging was well thought out so everything arrived in perfect condition. I surprised my wife with this set by washing them and replacing our old dishes in the cupboard. When she opened the cupboard she immediately fell in love with them. I'm so happy I got the lightening special but have to say they are worth it even at full price. The dinner plates and dessert plates have much more surface area than their round counterparts but still fit into the cupboard perfectly. The bowls and mugs are quite deep (large capacity) and are already being used more often than our former shallow ones. The bowls stack nicely. The mug handles make it a bit difficult to stack the mugs but I found that stacking two works okay if you reverse the handles. Now if I could find matching serving bowls/platters!

We really wanted to like these dishes since the design and color are really nice. We didn't believe the other reviews that they would chip so easily, but they do. After only 2 times in the dishwasher, 3 items are chipped. The chips are not small areas either, both bowls each have about a 1/2" dent in the rims, and the plate has about a over 1/2" flat section missing on the rim. They are getting thrown away.

I've had these for about 4-6 months now and they are holding up great - no chips or problems in the dishwasher. Love the glaze on these, not cheap looking at all! The plate and bowl sizes are perfect. I had found in other sets that sometimes the bowls or dessert plates were too small but these are perfect. I wasn't sure if I was going to like squareness, especially the bowls and mugs but they both fit so perfectly in both mine and my boyfriend's hands - very comfortable. I liked that these dishes didn't have a rim on them but there is the slightest curve to them instead to keep any juices from running off the plate.The unique design and look of this dishwater makes it great both for every day use and for special occasion dining

We ordered two sets... one had to be returned due to breakage in the box. In the set we kept, one dinner plate is not flat and rocks on the table. We love the look of the dinnerware, although there are more flaws/inconsistencies in the finish then we expected. One bowl chipped badly in our dishwasher. We haven't ordered a replacement for the returned set only because we are not "sold" on the quality of it.

Update: Were these dishes ever fired after molding? Cracked on low heat. And I had another plate to break into while hand washing it. Time for another set and going expensive this time.This is a first impression review. I'll definitely update if they don't hold up. I had a set of Pfaltzgraff's that lasted 15 years until they became outdated and minor chips.. The last cheap set of dishes I bought on Amazon cracked on oven warm setting even though the bottom says oven safe. Going to try this set. They look really nice. Only complaint I have is the soup bowl needs to be a little larger. I expect to go back for seconds with this bowl.

I would not get these again. They are attractive HOWEVER they are almost all chipped after less than 6 weeks and I am extremely careful with my things. So looks like I will have to replace them with something else. Spend a little more and get something that holds up better- just my suggestion. Very disappointed especially after my initial excitement.

We had looked for quite some time for the ideal dinnerware. We have found it. The plates are attractive. The way they are manufactured, all are matching with slight variety of patter due to the individual glazing. We initially brought a set of 4 and liked so much, brought another set. They are well constructed and get cleaned well in the dishwasher. Microwaving is not an issue. They are quite easy to clean by hand as well. I like the fact they are square (with rounded corners). This allows the food to be more spaced out and look nicer than round dishes. The bowls are the ideal size, not too large or too small. The side plates are also perfect. With other sets, I always felt the side plates were too small. But the ones here are a bit larger than most so they are perfect for use in appetizers.

attractive product! We ordered 2 sets of these dishes to have a service of 8. Many reviews stated they received broken pieces.... So we expected to possibly receive some that were chipped or cracked. Every single piece came in undamaged and very well packaged. They arrived in their manufacturer box and then were placed in a larger box FULL of bubble wrap. The set has shown many different colors when looking at pictures so we weren't sure what color they would be either. I can tell you that the glaze on the plates are very light sensitive. In a darker room they look more green; under bright lights they show more of a blue tint. The plates and bowls are heavy which we prefer. The coffee mugs are a little small. When brewing our coffee we have to use the middle button on our kureig. The large button fills the cup almost to the brim leaving no room for cream. Overall we are very happy with this purchase.

I really love the dishes. I wish I could get more pieces that match. The problem I have is that out of the two sets I bought, the handles have broken off of all but 3 of the mugs. I have no idea how to get replacements or if I can. It's very frustrating.

This is an nice set. The dinner plates are very large and we find ourselves using the smaller saucers for lunch plates. The set is heavy and the plates just fit in our cupboard. But with everyday use we have observed that the glazed edges of the set chips easily and is very noticeable.

I like these, got them in perfect condition, nothing was missing or broken. They were packaged like a rover drop off at Mars, wrapped in bubble wrap, and boxed a second time with paper padding. I think you could have dropped these from 6 feet and they would still be ok.They don't look as brown/earthy as they do in the picture. There is a shiny almost metal looking ring around the edges, and it's sort of mossy green looking with some brown and blue mixed in. They still look pretty nice, just not quite what I was expecting. I thought they would be more brown with subtle green on the edges. I included 2 pictures of one of the plates, hopefully they look a bit more true to the real thing.They have neat textures on the plates and nice color gradients, I'm using them for display/filler on my yellow pine china cabinet (great contrast).

After seeing the Gibson Elite Athea dishware, I cant help but conclude that "reactive glaze" is a marketing spin for poor quality control. These dishes have blemishes, inconsistencies, and flaws in not only the glaze coloring but also in the shape and underlying material. One plate wasn't flat but domed up in the center causing the food liquids to pool up in a ring around the edge like a little moat. The Gibson Elite Athea dishes are a attractive design, poorly manufactured.Update: Cheaper on the GibsonOutlet website

I ordered 4 sets of these dishes and couldn't be happier with them. They are attractive and light weight for ceramic/stoneware. They are not identical which I like. Of the 64 pieces in the 4 sets none arrived broken or significantly damaged. The only blemish was a small scuff on one of the large plates which doesn't really bother me as I doubt I will even notice it. I only inspect my dishes that carefully when I first unpack them. So far I've run them all through the dishwasher once and all came out fine. It's too early to determine long term durability but I am super excited to use them and find out!

There is nothing more :adulting" than buying your first set of matching plates and mugs. They are attractive and great quality. We stack them in our cupboard and noticed if you slid one on top of the other they will scratch a little on the edges. Be more aware when stacking them and you will be fine, nothing noticeable. They wash in the dishwasher just fine as well. We bought 2 sets so we would have 8 servings.

These are heavy/duty, well made dishes. dishwasher, oven and microwave safe - seems to keep the food warmer for longer than normal/cheaper dishes. Besides functionality, I really like the different designs they offer as well. We ordered 2 boxes of them, they came boxed up nicely - boxes within boxes etc.. so all of the dishes were safe and unharmed during shipping.

The plates are nice size and we like the pattern. They are heavy, though, so be careful stacking them too high in your cabinets. We bought 3 sets and one set arrived with a broken plate. If we wanted it replaced we would have send the whole set back - not worth the trouble. Overall pretty happy.

I'm familiar with this product line and reactive glazes, so I made sure to order 3 sets at once in order to (hopefully) have them come from the same color run, and the glazes are close enough that they definitely look like a set. I'm very pleased with the color (I ordered the Taupe, which is a sandy center that fades out to a light ocean bluish-green edged by tan) which is gorgeous. I've seen complaints about the mugs not holding up, which I don't care about since we do not use the mugs. Be aware that stoneware is heavy and these are no exception-- why "lightweight" is a default rating provided on an order of stoneware escapes me. In any case they have always held up well in dishwasher and microwave, and I assume these will do so as well. If we run into issues I'll update my review, but so far I'm very pleased; they are gorgeous and just what I wanted.

I’ve had them for a few weeks and nothing has broken so far, which is impressive given my husband has somehow managed to break a bunch of my dishes that I had for over 10 years before I met him. My set doesn’t have any of the flaws other people are talking about but they most certainly weren’t manufactured at the exact same time so I’d just be cautious. I love this dining set. They’re attractive and the colors are vibrant and look great together (I have the red ones with dark brown, light brown and a teal/aqua color). If they hold up over time, I’ll definitely buy again.

I loved this pattern in the multicolor red; my partner was less enthused, but realized how much I loved it over the other option so went along with it. When we opened the box he was absolutely happy and actually preferred it over his original choice. We’ve had it for about a month now and all pieces seem to be holding up well. The mugs have a very nice feel and fit and our hands, and don’t tilt when you pick them up as some mugs do. The only slight downside would be the relatively shallow bowls and the overly large dinner plates. They could be a tad smaller. But still a solid five star review.

When they arrived, I was even more pleased with the sizes of everything. The cups are large and comfortable to use, the bowls are deep, and the plates are large with a slight concave shape to keep juices and sauces in. They are heavy, and even though I've bumped them on the counter and sink, they haven't chipped or broke. They aren't lightweight, which is asked for in the rating for stars, but they aren't intended to be. They are sturdy and substantial. I spent a year looking at dishes and didn't find anything close in stores. I'm very happy with my purchase.

I surprised my wife with this set by washing them and replacing our old dishes in the cupboard. When she opened the cupboard she immediately fell in love with them. I'm so happy I got the lightening special but have to say they are worth it even at full price. The dinner plates and dessert plates have much more surface area than their round counterparts but still fit into the cupboard perfectly. The bowls and mugs are quite deep (large capacity) and are already being used more often than our former shallow ones. The bowls stack nicely. The mug handles make it a bit difficult to stack the mugs but I found that stacking two works okay if you reverse the handles. Now if I could find matching serving bowls/platters!

We really wanted to like these dishes since the design and color are really nice. We didn't believe the other reviews that they would chip so easily, but they do. After only 2 times in the dishwasher, 3 items are chipped. The chips are not small areas either, both bowls each have about a 1/2" dent in the rims, and the plate has about a over 1/2" flat section missing on the rim. They are getting thrown away.

I've had these for about 4-6 months now and they are holding up great - no chips or problems in the dishwasher. Love the glaze on these, not cheap looking at all! The plate and bowl sizes are perfect. I had found in other sets that sometimes the bowls or dessert plates were too small but these are perfect. I wasn't sure if I was going to like squareness, especially the bowls and mugs but they both fit so perfectly in both mine and my boyfriend's hands - very comfortable. I liked that these dishes didn't have a rim on them but there is the slightest curve to them instead to keep any juices from running off the plate.The unique design and look of this dishwater makes it great both for every day use and for special occasion dining

We ordered two sets... one had to be returned due to breakage in the box. In the set we kept, one dinner plate is not flat and rocks on the table. We love the look of the dinnerware, although there are more flaws/inconsistencies in the finish then we expected. One bowl chipped badly in our dishwasher. We haven't ordered a replacement for the returned set only because we are not "sold" on the quality of it.

Update: Were these dishes ever fired after molding? Cracked on low heat. And I had another plate to break into while hand washing it. Time for another set and going expensive this time.This is a first impression review. I'll definitely update if they don't hold up. I had a set of Pfaltzgraff's that lasted 15 years until they became outdated and minor chips.. The last cheap set of dishes I bought on Amazon cracked on oven warm setting even though the bottom says oven safe. Going to try this set. They look really nice. Only complaint I have is the soup bowl needs to be a little larger. I expect to go back for seconds with this bowl.

I would not get these again. They are attractive HOWEVER they are almost all chipped after less than 6 weeks and I am extremely careful with my things. So looks like I will have to replace them with something else. Spend a little more and get something that holds up better- just my suggestion. Very disappointed especially after my initial excitement.

We had looked for quite some time for the ideal dinnerware. We have found it. The plates are attractive. The way they are manufactured, all are matching with slight variety of patter due to the individual glazing. We initially brought a set of 4 and liked so much, brought another set. They are well constructed and get cleaned well in the dishwasher. Microwaving is not an issue. They are quite easy to clean by hand as well. I like the fact they are square (with rounded corners). This allows the food to be more spaced out and look nicer than round dishes. The bowls are the ideal size, not too large or too small. The side plates are also perfect. With other sets, I always felt the side plates were too small. But the ones here are a bit larger than most so they are perfect for use in appetizers.

attractive product! We ordered 2 sets of these dishes to have a service of 8. Many reviews stated they received broken pieces.... So we expected to possibly receive some that were chipped or cracked. Every single piece came in undamaged and very well packaged. They arrived in their manufacturer box and then were placed in a larger box FULL of bubble wrap. The set has shown many different colors when looking at pictures so we weren't sure what color they would be either. I can tell you that the glaze on the plates are very light sensitive. In a darker room they look more green; under bright lights they show more of a blue tint. The plates and bowls are heavy which we prefer. The coffee mugs are a little small. When brewing our coffee we have to use the middle button on our kureig. The large button fills the cup almost to the brim leaving no room for cream. Overall we are very happy with this purchase.

I really love the dishes. I wish I could get more pieces that match. The problem I have is that out of the two sets I bought, the handles have broken off of all but 3 of the mugs. I have no idea how to get replacements or if I can. It's very frustrating.

This is an nice set. The dinner plates are very large and we find ourselves using the smaller saucers for lunch plates. The set is heavy and the plates just fit in our cupboard. But with everyday use we have observed that the glazed edges of the set chips easily and is very noticeable.

I like these, got them in perfect condition, nothing was missing or broken. They were packaged like a rover drop off at Mars, wrapped in bubble wrap, and boxed a second time with paper padding. I think you could have dropped these from 6 feet and they would still be ok.They don't look as brown/earthy as they do in the picture. There is a shiny almost metal looking ring around the edges, and it's sort of mossy green looking with some brown and blue mixed in. They still look pretty nice, just not quite what I was expecting. I thought they would be more brown with subtle green on the edges. I included 2 pictures of one of the plates, hopefully they look a bit more true to the real thing.They have neat textures on the plates and nice color gradients, I'm using them for display/filler on my yellow pine china cabinet (great contrast).

After seeing the Gibson Elite Athea dishware, I cant help but conclude that "reactive glaze" is a marketing spin for poor quality control. These dishes have blemishes, inconsistencies, and flaws in not only the glaze coloring but also in the shape and underlying material. One plate wasn't flat but domed up in the center causing the food liquids to pool up in a ring around the edge like a little moat. The Gibson Elite Athea dishes are a attractive design, poorly manufactured.Update: Cheaper on the GibsonOutlet website

I ordered 4 sets of these dishes and couldn't be happier with them. They are attractive and light weight for ceramic/stoneware. They are not identical which I like. Of the 64 pieces in the 4 sets none arrived broken or significantly damaged. The only blemish was a small scuff on one of the large plates which doesn't really bother me as I doubt I will even notice it. I only inspect my dishes that carefully when I first unpack them. So far I've run them all through the dishwasher once and all came out fine. It's too early to determine long term durability but I am super excited to use them and find out!

There is nothing more :adulting" than buying your first set of matching plates and mugs. They are attractive and great quality. We stack them in our cupboard and noticed if you slid one on top of the other they will scratch a little on the edges. Be more aware when stacking them and you will be fine, nothing noticeable. They wash in the dishwasher just fine as well. We bought 2 sets so we would have 8 servings.

These are heavy/duty, well made dishes. dishwasher, oven and microwave safe - seems to keep the food warmer for longer than normal/cheaper dishes. Besides functionality, I really like the different designs they offer as well. We ordered 2 boxes of them, they came boxed up nicely - boxes within boxes etc.. so all of the dishes were safe and unharmed during shipping.

The plates are nice size and we like the pattern. They are heavy, though, so be careful stacking them too high in your cabinets. We bought 3 sets and one set arrived with a broken plate. If we wanted it replaced we would have send the whole set back - not worth the trouble. Overall pretty happy.

I'm familiar with this product line and reactive glazes, so I made sure to order 3 sets at once in order to (hopefully) have them come from the same color run, and the glazes are close enough that they definitely look like a set. I'm very pleased with the color (I ordered the Taupe, which is a sandy center that fades out to a light ocean bluish-green edged by tan) which is gorgeous. I've seen complaints about the mugs not holding up, which I don't care about since we do not use the mugs. Be aware that stoneware is heavy and these are no exception-- why "lightweight" is a default rating provided on an order of stoneware escapes me. In any case they have always held up well in dishwasher and microwave, and I assume these will do so as well. If we run into issues I'll update my review, but so far I'm very pleased; they are gorgeous and just what I wanted.

I’ve had them for a few weeks and nothing has broken so far, which is impressive given my husband has somehow managed to break a bunch of my dishes that I had for over 10 years before I met him. My set doesn’t have any of the flaws other people are talking about but they most certainly weren’t manufactured at the exact same time so I’d just be cautious. I love this dining set. They’re attractive and the colors are vibrant and look great together (I have the red ones with dark brown, light brown and a teal/aqua color). If they hold up over time, I’ll definitely buy again.

I loved this pattern in the multicolor red; my partner was less enthused, but realized how much I loved it over the other option so went along with it. When we opened the box he was absolutely happy and actually preferred it over his original choice. We’ve had it for about a month now and all pieces seem to be holding up well. The mugs have a very nice feel and fit and our hands, and don’t tilt when you pick them up as some mugs do. The only slight downside would be the relatively shallow bowls and the overly large dinner plates. They could be a tad smaller. But still a solid five star review.

They are heavy, and even though I've bumped them on the counter and sink, they haven't chipped or broke. They aren't lightweight, which is asked for in the rating for stars, but they aren't intended to be. They are sturdy and substantial. I spent a year looking at dishes and didn't find anything close in stores. I'm very happy with my purchase.
